Society and media have a lot of influence on one another. As we’ve learned, “the media doesn’t tell us what to think but rather what to think about.” This can have a damaging impact on different races, ethnicities, and cultures. Therefore, I want to analyze the impact the media has on the deception of Hispanics and Latinos. This topic is important because as a minority ethnicity/race, they are not highlighted by the media or shared about. I am focusing on this topic based in the United States. Before the United States formalized, what is now known as Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and California, they were a part of Mexico. The majority of the population in those areas spoke Spanish and took pride in their culture. Once the United States took over, this population decreased and is now a minority ethnicity. Now, these ethnic groups have stereotypes associated with them like low-income, criminals, rapists, drug dealers immigrants, and other harmful words. It’s important to analyze the lack of representation in films and the media industry and how stereotypes are present.&nbsp;

This story includes several of the pieces you might use in your own story–like paragraphs, buttons, separators, and more. To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
