The Andes are a diverse mountain chain, spanning several countries, cultures, climatic zones, unique ecosystems, and altitudes over 6000 metres (Schoolmiester et al., 2018). They are also home to a diverse cryosphere such as tropical glaciers, mountain permafrost, and rock glaciers (Masiokas et al., 2020). It is the central semi arid region of the Andes we will focus on, where the cryosphere is dominated by rock glaciers and high elevation permafrost (Masiokas et al. 2020; Pellicciotti et al. 2014).The central Andean cryosphere has changed in recent decades, indicating future trends caused by climate change, most notably the Central Chilean megadrought from 2010 to 2018 (Kim et al. 2022; Garreaud et al. 2019 in Podgórski et al. 2023). Snow cover, snow days, and glacial mass have decreased according to modelling, remote sensing, and field studies from the last decade (Masiokas et al. 2020). However, due to the inaccessibility of the high elevation areas in question there is a lack of meteorological stations and on-site verifications, therefore attempts at mapping and projections of these changes face uncertainties.

To get started, select a section of the styling panel and make some adjustments. As you adjust different elements, you’ll see this story adjust to demonstrate how they look. Your theme’s accent color is used in both quotes (see above) and separators (below). If you add an express map to your story, your drawn features will use the accent color too.

ArcGIS <link>StoryMaps</link> is the professional version of StoryMaps and is available as part of <link2>ArcGIS Online</link2>. Both products share similar storytelling capabilities, so if you are familiar with StoryMaps, you'll feel right at home with ArcGIS StoryMaps. If you do not migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you can save any content you would like to keep before the June 30, 2025, retirement date. The options for saving content include saving stories as a PDF and saving frames using a screen recording.

You are invited to migrate your account and content to ArcGIS Online where you can continue storytelling with maps. With ArcGIS Online, you’ll get access to ArcGIS StoryMaps and the easy-to-use story builder you are familiar with, plus so much more!

If you migrate your account to ArcGIS Online, you will have access to your existing stories, collections, and themes via ArcGIS StoryMaps, as well as an array of additional ArcGIS capabilities. (Your frames will be migrated and accessible when support for frames is added to ArcGIS StoryMaps.)
